Foundation: The O’Leary Community Health Foundation and Auxiliary supports the hospital with the  purchase of much needed medical equipment.  These organizations are not  for profit and are registered charities.

Nursing Services Offered:

RN

  • Adolescent healthy lifestyle

  • Anticoagulant education 

  • Cardiac education

  • Cholesterol teaching (individual or group)

  • COPD education (group and individual)

  • Cryotherapy

  • Diabetes (those managed by diet/oral meds or OD insulin dosing; complex diabetes patients should be referred to and followed by DEC)

  • Ear syringing (can be booked directly with the RN without seeing a physician/NP first)

  • Hypertension education

  • Injections  (vaccines and other medications like lovenox, fragmin)

  • Mental Health (typically those having difficulty coping, mild to moderate depression/anxiety)

  • Obesity management

  • PAPs

  • POC INR / follow up of lab INRs

  • Prenatals

  • Review of labs

  • Smoking cessation

  • Spirometry

  • Well Woman visits

  • Workplace wellness visits

LPN

  • Ambulatory (24 hr) BP monitoring

  • BP tru

  • Simple dressings

  • Injections (Vitamin B12, depo provera, testosterone, methotrexate)

  • Suture and Staple removal

  • Mini mental exams

  • BP checks

Community Hospital O’Leary offers 13 extended care beds available for Islanders from across

the province.  Extended care services include restorative, respite, convalescent and palliative

care. The hospital also provides lab, X-ray, pharmacy, physiotherapy, nutrition counselling, and

occupational therapy services.
 

Other programs located within this facility include Home Care, Public Health Nursing, and the

Diabetes Program.
 

The O’Leary Health Centre  (adjacent to the hospital) provides a walk-in clinic, assessment,

 diagnostic, and treatment services for medical problems that require  prompt attention but are

not life threatening.  Please check the walk-in clinic schedule for updated hours of operation or

call ahead to confirm clinic hours (902) 859-3929.
